Indonesia national team clinched 1 point in their home after tied Laos national team scoring 3-3 in the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024 Group Stage, Group B at Manahan Stadium, Solo.
Laos struck the first blow in the 9th minute, as Phousomboun Panyavong found the net with a deflected shot off Indonesian defender Kakang Rudianto, following a well-timed assist from Bounpachan Bounkong.
Indonesia responded swiftly, equalizing just three minutes later through Kadek Arel, who capitalized on a chaotic moment in the Laos penalty box to fire a powerful shot past the goalkeeper.
Laos, however, regained the lead almost immediately in the 13th minute. Phathana Phommathep scored with a deflected strike off Kadek Arel after another brilliant assist from Bounpachan Bounkong, putting the visitors up 2-1.
The hosts found a lifeline in the 18th minute thanks to their renowned weapon: Pratama Arhan’s long throw-in. Captain Muhammad Ferarri rose highest to head the ball into the net, leveling the score at 2-2 before halftime.
Indonesia made tactical changes during the break, bringing on Zanadin Fariz, Asnawi Mangkualam, and Victor Dethan to inject fresh energy. However, the second half turned chaotic when Marselino Ferdinan was sent off in the 69th minute after receiving a second yellow card for a reckless challenge, leaving Indonesia to play with ten men.
Despite the disadvantage, Indonesia seized the lead in the 72nd minute when captain Muhammad Ferarri scored his second goal of the night. His header from Dony Tri Pamungkas’ corner kick ignited the home crowd and gave Indonesia a 3-2 advantage.
Laos, however, refused to back down. Just five minutes later, Peter Phantvhavong equalized for the visitors with a precise finish off a cross from Damoth Thongkhamsavath, securing a hard-earned point for his side.
The draw leaves Indonesia’s progression in Group B uncertain, as they missed the opportunity to secure three crucial points at home. With two draws in as many matches, the pressure mounts on the Garuda squad to perform in their upcoming fixtures to stay in contention for the knockout stage.
