Thai-Malay Muay Thai sensation Alif Sor.Detchaphan sharpens his skills as he prepares to face Brazilian dynamo Walter Goncalves in the strawweight (115-125 lbs.) division at ONE 169.
This highly anticipated matchup will take place at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium on Saturday, November 9, during prime time in America (8:00 a.m. ET).
Alif first rose to prominence with an impressive streak of four consecutive victories, earning him a coveted ONE athlete contract at ONE Lumpinee. However, his journey after joining the ONE Championship roster was fraught with challenges, including back-to-back losses.
In August, Alif showcased his resilience, delivering a stunning first-round knockout against Moroccan fighter Zakaria El Jamari at ONE Fight Night 24. This victory revived his career and came with a $50,000 bonus, which Alif used to purchase land in Malaysia.
“I was eagerly for a win after those two losses. The bonus was life-changing; I’ve never earned that much before,” Alif shared. “If I earn another bonus, I might open a boxing gym on the land I bought, but it depends on the market.”
For his fourth fight as a ONE athlete, Alif will square off against Walter Goncalves, a former challenger to the Muay Thai flyweight titleholder, Rodtang Jitmuangnon. Gonsalves, known for his speed and precision, will be competing in the strawweight division for the first time, adding an intriguing dynamic to the bout.
Alif is determined to capitalize on his physical advantages and showcase his Muay Thai mastery. “Walter is fast and has powerful punches, but I have the edge in reach. My plan is to adapt—press forward if he retreats and defend strategically if he advances. I’m ready to end the fight early,” Alif stated.
Alif’s ultimate goal is to earn consecutive knockouts and position himself for a title shot next year. “If I can win and secure another bonus, it will be a stepping stone to my dream of becoming a champion,” he said. “I want to prove that my Muay Thai skills are championship-worthy.”
