Albirex Niigata (S), the club in Singapore Premier League, will be changed from a Japanese team to a Singaporean team in season 2024 to join in AFC club Tournament.
Albirex Niigata Singapore has participated in the then-Singapore Professional Soccer League or “S.League” since 2004. Until 2017, the club had played only Japanese players, but in 2018, the club’s wish to develop Singaporean players came true, and with the approval of the league, they acquired their first Singaporean player. Since then, we have gradually increased the number of Singaporean players and created an environment for the development of Singaporean players, including launching an academy to train young players.
“Thanks to everyone’s support, we have reached the 20th anniversary of the club’s founding. Personally, I have been appointed as chairman since 2008, and this is my 16th season. A lot has happened so far, but I thank everyone who has supported the club no matter what.” Daisuke Korenaga, Albirex Niigata club president said in official statement.
“There have been many challenges throughout the club’s history. However, I believe this localisation challenge is completely different and completely new. Although we may face some difficult situations, we are excited to see scenery we have never seen.”
“We believe that the significance of our existence lies in three main points, 1.To strengthen the Singapore national team, 2.To improve the value of Singapore football, and 3.To make it a sport that connects the community”
“By becoming a local club, we hope to increase the significance of each of these further.”
“We will continue to do what we can to contribute to Singapore football with a sense of responsibility. We look forward to your continued support.”
