Kuching City Head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak praised his players’ mentality, highlighting their relentless energy and desire to win compared to the first leg.
Kuching City FC delivered a commanding performance in front of their home fans, thrashing Brunei DPMM FC 7-1 in the second leg of the FA Cup Round of 16 to secure their first-ever spot in the tournament’s quarter-finals.
The emphatic win at the Stadium Negeri gave The Cats a 9-4 aggregate victory, overturning their narrow 2-3 defeat in Bandar Seri Begawan last month.
“Alhamdulillah, congratulations to all the players for their brilliant performance. Tonight, we showed more hunger to win,” said Aidil.
“In Brunei, it was a balanced game, but this time we knew we had to deliver. The difference was motivation, determination, and the incredible support from our fans.”
“We didn’t relax even when they had 10 players. From the start, at 11 vs 11, we had already scored twice. After that, the players kept pressing and didn’t settle until the end,” he added.
The result not only erased the disappointment of their first-leg defeat but also marked a historic milestone for Kuching City – their first-ever qualification for the FA Cup quarter-finals.
With momentum and belief now on their side, The Cats will look to extend their fairytale run in Malaysia’s prestigious cup competition.
