Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has acknowledged the concerns expressed by the Bahrain Football Association (BFA) regarding the safety of their national team ahead of their FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 3 Group C away match against Indonesia, set for March 25, 2025.
Following a controversial 2-2 draw in October 2024, tensions escalated when Bahraini players and officials faced online abuse and threats from some Indonesian supporters. These events have prompted the BFA to request the match be moved to a neutral venue.
In response, the AFC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of all players, officials, and fans, condemning any form of abuse. The AFC has stated it will collaborate with FIFA, the BFA, and the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) to establish a secure environment for all stakeholders.
Further discussions are expected to address the situation and maintain the integrity of the competition.
