Johor Darul Ta’Zim still has a chance in the second match after tied Buriram United, a club from Thailand, scoring 0-0 in the AFC Champions League Elite 2024/25 Round of 16 first leg at Buriram Stadium, Buriram.
JDT showed early attacking intent, creating their first chance in the 7th minute through a Jonathan Viera free kick. His cross found Bergson Da Silva, who attempted a header but missed the target.
Despite several opportunities, the Southern Tigers were unable to break the deadlock, and the first half ended goalless.
JDT made their first substitution early in the second half, introducing Samu Castillejo for Murillo Santos, marking Samu’s debut for the club.
Buriram came close to scoring in the 65th minute when Kim Min-Hyeok unleashed a powerful shot, but JDT goalkeeper Andoni Zubiaurre pulled off a crucial save to keep the score level.
Both teams had more chances in the final minutes, but neither could find the back of the net, resulting in a 0-0 draw at full-time.
With the tie still wide open, JDT will now shift focus to the second leg at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri, on March 11. A win at home would secure them a historic spot in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
