Asian Football Confederation (AFC) annouced AFC Champions League 2022 dates have been revised. And play over to 2023 after careful consideration of the emerging complications caused by COVID-19 Omicron variant.
Now travel procedures around Asia have become more challenging with new travel restrictions and protocols being introduced by several countries in efforts to prevent the spread of the Omicron variant.
The Asian teams who are likely to qualify for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 are expected to put in place extensive preparation plans for the competition and a need was felt to facilitate such tune-ups in the face of the uncertain situation and unforeseen risks.
Keeping in view the above, the AFC Competitions Committee has today approved a change in the dates of AFC Champions League 2022 competition.
West Zone
Group Stage : 7-27 April 2022 (double round-robin in one centralised venue).
Round of 16 : 3-4 February 2023 (single knockout match in one centralised venue).
Quarter Finals: 7 February 2023 (single knockout match in one centralised venue).
Semi Final : 10 February 2023 (single knockout match in one centralised venue).
East Zone
Group Stage : 15 April – 1 May 2022 (double round-robin in one centralised venue).
Round of 16 : 18-19 August 2022 (single knockout match in one centralised venue).
Quarter Finals: 22 August 2022 (single knockout match in one centralised venue).
Semi Final : 25 August 2022 (single knockout match in one centralised venue).
Final
First Leg(West Zone host) : 19 February 2023
Second Leg(East Zone host) : 26 February 2023
All decisions of the AFC Standing Committees need to be ratified by the AFC Executive Committee to take effect.
