Selangor FC endured a hard-fought battle against Korean powerhouse Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in their fourth match of Group H in the AFC Champions League Two 2024/25. Despite their best efforts, the Red Giants fell short, losing 1-0 at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium.
Jeonbuk’s lone goal came courtesy of Tiago Orobo, whose aerial dominance proved decisive. His precise header in the first half gave the hosts the edge, and despite Selangor’s attempts to mount a comeback, they couldn’t find the equalizer.
Selangor’s head coach, Abdi Hassan, acknowledged the difficulties posed by Jeonbuk’s attack.
“It was a tough match. I know Tiago is the main weapon for headers. In the second half, I tried to improve what was unfortunate in the first half,” Hassan stated.
The coach also lamented missed opportunities that could have changed the game’s outcome.
“There were situations where we could have scored and equalized, but Jeonbuk deserved to win.”
The defeat leaves Selangor with work to do as they prepare to face Thailand’s Muangthong United on November 28 at the MBPJ Stadium in Petaling Jaya. A win will be crucial for the Red Giants as they aim to keep their hopes alive in the competition.
