First Instance Body (FIB) of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has concluded its 10th meeting today at Wisma FAM, announcing the results of the AFC Club Licensing decisions for the 2024–2025 cycle.
This licensing is crucial for participation in AFC Champions League Elite and AFC Champions League Two competitions for the upcoming 2025–2026 season.
A total of six Liga Super Malaysia clubs submitted applications for the current licensing cycle: Johor Darul Ta’Zim, Selangor FC, Sabah FC, Terengganu FC, Kedah Darul Aman, Penang FC
Following a thorough evaluation, only four clubs have successfully met all the requirements to obtain the AFC Club Licence: Johor Darul Ta’Zim, Selangor FC, Sabah FC, Penang FC
Meanwhile, Terengganu FC and Kedah Darul Aman FC did not fulfill the necessary criteria and thus were not granted the AFC licence for the 2025–2026 season.
FIB Chairman Sheikh Mohd Nasir Sheikh Mohd Sharif expressed appreciation to all clubs involved, stating:
“Congratulations to the four clubs that have earned the AFC Club Licence for the 2024–2025 cycle. We also extend our sincere gratitude to Terengganu FC and Kedah Darul Aman FC for their efforts and commitment throughout the application process.”
He further emphasized the importance of raising the overall standards across Malaysian clubs and encouraged more participation in the upcoming licensing cycle to ensure the Super League remains competitive on the continental stage.
The AFC Club Licensing system evaluates clubs based on stringent criteria across five key areas: sporting, infrastructure, personnel and administrative, legal, and financial.
The successful clubs are now officially eligible to represent Malaysia on Asia’s biggest football stage in the 2025/26 AFC club competitions.
