Syed Yazid Syed Omar, Newly elected Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) President, has called for KL City FC players to remain patient amid ongoing salary arrears issues.
As a member of Kuala Lumpur United’s Board of Directors, Syed Yazid expressed his commitment to resolving the financial crisis, which has plagued the team throughout the season.
Having known many of the players since 2017, Syed Yazid plans to reach out personally and meet them soon, urging them to stay with the club until the season’s conclusion.
“I have known most of these players since 2017 and after this, of course I will persuade them and contact them. I will also meet them as soon as possible.
“Yes, (ask the players) to be patient but as president, of course I have to solve (the problem of salary arrears). Maybe the players want to see how I (work). But most of the players already know me,” he said.
He acknowledged that the players might be waiting to see how he handles the situation, but he is confident in gaining their trust.
Syed Yazid’s election as KLFA President for the 2024-2028 term came as no surprise, with the businessman securing 15 votes against incumbent Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, who received 12 votes.
His presidency has already garnered support from several parties, including government agencies and private entities, who have shown interest in helping KL City FC recover.
“Regarding sponsors, I have already received positive feedback in the past two weeks and there are people who have contacted me.”
“There are several parties from government agencies and also private parties. If I win (KLFA President), they will join (help) with KL City FC,”
Positive feedback from potential sponsors in the past two weeks has boosted Syed Yazid’s confidence in the club’s future, with new sponsorship deals likely to be announced soon. He is optimistic that these partnerships will bring much-needed financial relief to the team.
