The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) has announced that Tom Saintfiet has resigned as the head coach of the Philippine national team, just one week before the team heads to Malaysia for the Pestabola Merdeka 2024.
Saintfiet, who took the role to contribute to the national team’s development, has accepted an offer from an African national team, leading to his departure by mutual agreement.
“From my first meeting with Tom, this is something we had discussed that if a bigger opportunity came to him I wouldn’t stand in his way. Tom came into the Philippine job to help with our project, but his heart has always been in Africa. We thank him for his service and wish him well in his new role.” Freddy said.
“With the Merdeka Cup around the corner, and preparations for the Mitsubishi Electric Cup ramping up, we need to move on quickly from this. We are already looking at candidates to take on the Head Coach role. I’m confident in finding a man that will be committed to our vision.”
However, PFF has statement again to appoint Norman Fegidero, assistant coach to be interim head coach and supported by coaching staff of the Philippine Women’s National Team, with Mark Torcaso, Andrew Durante, Sinisha Cohadzic, and Garrath McPherson.
