Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) threw its support behind Saudi Arabia on their campaign to host the 2034 World Cup.
FAM President, Datuk Haji Hamidin Haji Mohd Amin said, the Saudi’s bid comes one year after Qatar hosted the first World Cup in the Middle East, which was classified as a success by FIFA President, Gianni Infantino.
“Thus, we support Saudi Arabia as another Asia country to stage the World Cup after South Korea and Japan in 2002 and in 2022 in Qatar.
“The South Korea, Japan and Qatar World Cup was spectacular and we confident that Saudi Arabia is a country capable of organising a similar tournament,” he said.
Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday it plans to bid to host the 2034 World Cup just an hour after world football’s governing body FIFA released a statement giving its plans for the 2030 World Cup and inviting countries in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to bid for 2034.
AFC has flagged its support to the Saudi 2034 World Cup bid shortly after it was announced.
