Johor Darul Ta’Zim is the first team to secure a semi-finalist spot after beating Kuala Lumpur City scoring 4-0 in the Unifi Piala Malaysia 2024/25 Quarter-Final second leg at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
Under the tactical guidance of head coach Hector Bidoglio, JDT fielded a star-studded lineup led by attacking trio Arif Aiman, Bergson, and Heberty. The Southern Tigers displayed their class and efficiency from the outset, leaving no room for a KL City comeback.
The breakthrough came in the 35th minute when Arif Aiman confidently converted a penalty to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Bergson then doubled the advantage shortly after, capitalizing on JDT’s attacking momentum to put his team in a commanding position before halftime.
KL City, playing with a mix of seasoned and younger players following the absence of key stars like Paulo Josue and Declan Lambert, showed determination in the second half. Their best opportunity arose when Brendan Gan unleashed a powerful attempt, only to be thwarted by JDT goalkeeper Syihan Hazmi, who was in stellar form.
JDT sealed their victory with two more goals in the latter stages of the match. Bergson struck again from the penalty spot, while Juan Muniz added the finishing touch, skillfully beating KL City’s Azri Ghani. The scoreline reflected JDT’s clinical execution in all areas of the pitch.
Despite six minutes of added time, KL City failed to find a response, leaving JDT to celebrate a comprehensive 4-0 aggregate score of 6-1 from 2 matches triumph and progression to the semi-finals.
With this victory, JDT has set the tone as strong contenders for the Piala Malaysia title. Their next challenge awaits in the semi-finals
