Malaysia’s rising men’s singles star Justin Hoh delivered a career-defining performance to book his first quarter-final berth of the year, stunning defending champion and tournament fourth seed Lin Chun-yi at the 2024 Taiwan Open.
Up against the world No. 17 and home crowd favorite, the 20-year-old Kuala Lumpur native showed remarkable poise and confidence on court. Justin dismantled the Taiwanese ace in straight sets, 21-17, 21-18, in just 46 minutes, displaying a level of composure well beyond his years.
Despite facing an uphill battle on paper, Justin dictated the tempo from the outset, outmaneuvering Lin with tactical precision, swift footwork, and fearless shot-making. His sharp net play and relentless pace left Lin searching for answers as the Malaysian sealed one of the biggest wins of his young career.
The victory comes on the back of an equally commanding first-round performance, where Justin cruised past local challenger Su Li-yang 21-16, 21-13.
Justin will next face the winner of the clash between South Korea’s Jeon Hyeok-jin and Taiwan’s Wang Tzu-wei as he eyes a breakthrough semi-final berth on the BWF World Tour.
With this impressive run, Justin Hoh is making a bold statement — he is no longer just a promising talent, but a serious contender on the international stage.
