Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei suffered heartbreaking disappointment at the Singapore Open 2026 after being forced to retire during their quarter-final clash following a knee injury sustained by Ee Wei on Friday.
The tournament’s third seeds were firmly on course for a semi-final berth after building an 18-16 lead in the opening game against India’s Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto before deciding they could no longer continue after 24 minutes of play at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Speaking after the match, Tang Jie revealed that Ee Wei suffered the injury when the score was tied at 15-15 in the first game, with her left knee believed to have twisted during a rally.
The Malaysian shuttler also shared that he deeply understood Ee Wei’s situation, having gone through injuries himself earlier in his career.
The unfortunate withdrawal ended what had been another promising campaign for the Malaysian pair, who arrived in Singapore carrying high expectations as one of the tournament favourites.
Attention will now turn towards Ee Wei’s recovery process ahead of the upcoming major tournaments on the BWF World Tour calendar, with Malaysian fans hoping the injury will not keep the pair sidelined for long.
