Selangor FC have released an official statement to clarify the incidents that led to disciplinary action by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), following crowd disturbances during the FA Cup quarter-final second leg against Negeri Sembilan FC on 29 October.
Last Saturday, FAM’s Disciplinary Committee imposed a RM100,000 fine and ordered Selangor to play two FA Cup matches behind closed doors, beginning with the upcoming semi-final second leg against Sabah.
In response, Selangor FC published a detailed explanation disputing several elements of the committee’s findings while acknowledging the club’s commitment to safety and discipline.
Club’s Clarification on the Four Key Incidents
Incident 1: Firecrackers in the stadium
Selangor FC stated that its supporters were not involved in lighting or throwing firecrackers during the match.
Incident 2: Damage to seats and injuries
The club clarified that Selangor fans did not damage or throw stadium seats, nor injure away supporters. Selangor claims the seat damage and missing seats were found on the away fans’ side of the stadium.
Incident 3: Alleged VVIP misconduct
Selangor FC denied that any of its VVIP guests threw a plastic drink container toward the section occupied by Negeri Sembilan players’ families.
Incident 4: Crowd provocation
The club maintained that Selangor supporters did not initiate any provocation leading to the unrest. According to the club, the altercation began when visiting supporters lit and threw firecrackers toward the Selangor fan section.
Concluding the statement, Selangor FC confirmed that the club will submit an appeal to FAM’s Disciplinary Committee regarding the sanctions. The club also stressed its firm stance on ensuring the safety of all fans and stated that it would not compromise on actions that threaten public security.
