Malaysia’s men’s doubles campaign at the Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters 2026 (HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300) came to a halt at the quarter-final stage, with two national pairs falling short against higher-ranked opposition on Friday.
National pair Chia Wei Jie / Lwi Sheng Hao were unable to overcome the tournament’s top seeds Leo Rolly Carnando / Bagas Maulana of Indonesia, suffering a straight-games defeat.
The Indonesians showcased their experience and sharp attacking rhythm, sealing the match comfortably. Chia/Lwi lost by straight sets 11-21, 16-21.
Despite flashes of resistance from the Malaysians, the Indonesian duo maintained control throughout, proving why they entered the tournament as favourites.
Earlier, Malaysia’s Nur Azriyn Ayub / Tan Wee Kiong, seeded fourth, also saw their hopes dashed after a tough battle against China’s rising pair Hu Ke Yuan / Lin Xiang Yi.
The Chinese duo delivered a composed performance in key moments, winning in straight games. Nur Azriyn/Tan lost by straight sets 13-21, 14-21.
Azriyn and Tan struggled to find consistency against the fast-paced Chinese attack, exiting the competition just one step away from the semi-finals.
With both pairs eliminated, Malaysia’s men’s doubles representation ends at the last eight in Bangkok.
While the results will be disappointing, reaching the quarter-finals still provides valuable World Tour exposure, especially for developing partnerships like Chia-Lwi, as Malaysia continues rebuilding depth in the men’s doubles department.
