Muangthong United received good news as they were granted the right to compete in the AFC Champions League 2 2024/25, replacing Thanh Hoa FC from Vietnam, who withdrew.
The Football Association of Thailand received an official letter from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) stating that a Thai club would fill the spot vacated by Thanh Hoa FC. Initially, this opportunity was extended to BG Pathum United, the 4th place team, but they declined due to their already full schedule, including commitments to the ASEAN Championship, Singapore Cup, and a mid-season training camp in Japan. Consequently, Muangthong United, the 5th-place team, was given the spot.
Muangthong United will now need to make necessary improvements to their home ground, Thunderdome Stadium, to ensure it meets the AFC standards for hosting matches. This may involve upgrading the stadium’s utilities and facilities to comply with the required regulations.
