Selangor FC earned 3 points after ended Hari Raya Aidilfitri, after beating Terengganu FC scoring 1-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
After more than three weeks of hiatus due to national team commitments, the Super League resumed with a high-stakes clash between Selangor and East Coast challengers Terengganu.
National winger Faisal Halim led the Red Giants’ starting eleven, while Terengganu deployed a potent attacking trio of Ismaheel Akinade, Safawi Rasid, and Akhyar Rashid.
Selangor signaled their intent early in the second minute when Ronnie Fernandez rose to meet a cross, but his header lacked power and was comfortably collected by Terengganu goalkeeper Rahadiazli Rahalim.
Moments later, Faisal Halim came close to breaking the deadlock, only to be denied by the goalpost—giving the visitors an early reprieve.
Terengganu’s best opportunity in the first half came near the break when Safawi Rasid unleashed a powerful left-footed shot that narrowly missed the target, keeping the match goalless at halftime.
The second half unfolded with both teams battling for dominance in a closely contested affair. Selangor struggled to penetrate Terengganu’s well-organized defense, while the Red Giants’ own backline held firm against the creative sparks from Terengganu midfielder Manuel Ott.
Despite Terengganu’s attempts to find a breakthrough, their attacking unit failed to capitalize, with Selangor’s defenders staying disciplined under pressure.
With the match seemingly destined for a draw, Selangor found the decisive moment in the 86th minute. A clever assist from Faisal Halim set up substitute Alvin Fortes, who rifled a powerful shot past Rahadiazli to finally breach Terengganu’s defenses.
The late strike sent the home crowd into celebration, sealing a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
