Penang FC earned 3 points in their home after beating PDRM FC scoring 2-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Stadium Bandaraya, Pulau Pinang.
The home team signaled their intent from the kickoff, pressing hard against the visitors. Australian import Dylan Wenzel-Halls set the tone early with a powerful shot in the first minute, though his effort sailed just wide of the post.
The game took a dramatic turn in the 8th minute when PDRM FC defender Amir Saiful Badeli was sent off. Referee Muhammad Shukor Zulkiflee issued a straight red card after Amir Saiful’s reckless foul, reducing The Cops to 10 men and leaving the visitors vulnerable for the remainder of the match.
Penang’s persistence paid off in the 38th minute when Brazilian striker Rodrigo Dias capitalized on a perfectly timed cross from midfielder Al-Hafiz Harun. Dias skillfully maneuvered behind the PDRM defense, heading the ball past goalkeeper Bryan See Tian Keat, who could do little to prevent the goal. This marked Dias’ sixth goal of the season, a testament to his clinical finishing and keen positioning.
Penang doubled their lead shortly after halftime. In the 55th minute, midfielder Nik Akif Syahiran Nik Mat unleashed a low-driven shot that pierced through PDRM’s defense and found the back of the net. The goal showcased Nik Akif’s composure and technical ability, further solidifying Penang’s dominance.
PDRM, despite a few counterattacks, struggled to convert their opportunities, with their finishing leaving much to be desired.
Heavy rain briefly disrupted proceedings, forcing referee Muhammad Shukor to halt the match with five minutes left on the clock. The delay did little to dampen Penang’s resolve as they returned to secure the win once play resumed.
The victory was a significant morale boost for Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail, Penang’s newly appointed manager, who faced his former club in this fixture.
With this win, Penang FC moves up to 10th place in the Super League standings, accumulating 14 points from three wins, five draws, and seven defeats. The result not only provides breathing room but also a sense of direction as the team looks to build on their newfound momentum.
