Johor Darul Ta’Zim earned last 3 points from last match in this season after beating Kuching City scoring 2-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Stadium Negeri, Kuching.
The Southern Tigers wasted no time asserting their authority, making an early breakthrough in the 2nd minute after Arif Aiman was brought down by Arif Fadzillah inside the box. Referee Zuhadi Dzulkifli pointed to the spot, and Bergson calmly converted the penalty, notching his 105th career goal in the Super League – a remarkable milestone for the Brazilian talisman.
JDT continued to dominate proceedings, doubling their lead in the 26th minute when Romel Morales capitalised on a corner to tap in a simple finish past the Kuching defence, silencing the home crowd.
Despite trailing, Kuching City showed glimpses of attacking threat. Petrus Shitembi and Shamie Iszuan combined well on a few occasions, but were consistently denied by a sharp Syihan Hazmi and a resilient JDT backline.
The first half ended 2-0 in favour of the visitors, with JDT firmly in control and Kuching City struggling to find answers.
In the second half, JDT head coach Hector Bidoglio made changes, including substituting Bergson, who had been hunting for more goals. Still, the rhythm remained with the champions, as Romel Morales briefly thought he had bagged a brace – only for his header to be ruled out after VAR confirmed a handball by Heberty in the buildup.
Kuching City’s most threatening moments continued to come from Shamie Iszuan, whose close-range efforts were brilliantly thwarted by the ever-reliable Syihan Hazmi, who delivered a standout performance to preserve JDT’s clean sheet.
The final whistle confirmed a 2-0 win for Johor Darul Ta’zim, bringing their campaign to a close with 70 points at the summit of the league. Kuching City, currently in 4th place, will turn their attention to their final fixture against Negeri Sembilan next week.
With this result, JDT once again stamped their legacy as the undisputed kings of Malaysian football, ending the season in style and keeping their momentum ahead of potential continental challenges.
