Korea Republic Football Association appointed Hwang Sun-Hong, head coach of the Korea Republic U23 national team, to be an interim head coach of the Korea Republic national team’s main squad for 2 matches in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 2 Group C in March.
Previously, KFA decided to sack Jurgen Klinsmann, German head coach out from head coach of the Korea Republic national team, after out in the semi-final of the AFC Asian Cup 2023.
However, KFA decided to appoint Hwang Sun-Hong, head coach of Korea Republic U23 national team to acting as ‘interim’ head coach for 2 matches against Thailand national team in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 2 Group C in March.
Hwang is a former striker for the Korea Republic national team. and has been a coach with several teams in K-League such as Busan I-Park, Pohang Steelers, FC Seoul and Daejeon Hana Citizen, and served as the head coach of the Korea Republic U23 national team since 2021 until now, And the latest work is leading theKorea Republic U23 national team to win the gold medal at Men’s Football event in Asian Games 2022 in China.
Korea Republic national team will against the Thailand national team 2 matches in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 2, Group C, which will be the home team first on March 21 at the Seoul World Cup Stadium and will be the visitor on March 26 at Rajamangala Stadium, Bangkok.
