Reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) has confirmed he will miss the upcoming Americas GP in Austin as he continues his recovery from injury.
Speaking from Spain via live video call during the Argentina GP Press Conference, Martin provided an honest update on his condition and the timeline for his return to racing.
“I Won’t Be in Austin” – Martin’s Recovery Takes Longer Than Expected
Despite his determination to get back on track, Martin admitted that his recovery is taking longer than he hoped:
“Here I’m really suffering, it’s not my moment. I’m struggling to recover as fast as I’d like. I can say from here I won’t be in Austin. I would like to be there, but I won’t be racing.”
The Spanish rider, who suffered multiple fractures in pre-season, also cast doubt on his participation in the Qatar GP, stating that his fitness is still far from ideal.
“I don’t know if I can race in Qatar – it’s still too early to tell. I’d like to do some testing before coming back because I’m not feeling really good, and I know Massimo (Rivola, Aprilia CEO) is working on that. Let’s see if we can make it possible.”
Despite the frustration of being sidelined, Martin remains engaged with the championship, closely following the action from home.
“It’s hard to watch from home, but I’ll follow this weekend really closely. I’m cheering for Aprilia – hopefully, they can improve a bit more and get closer to that podium.”
And in true Martinator fashion, the reigning champion kept his sense of humor, playfully suggesting that MotoGP is missing its biggest star:
“For sure, it’s a bit boring without me on track… but I hope these guys put on a big show this weekend. I’ll watch from home, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy the race!”
While his return date remains uncertain, Martin’s priority is to fully recover before making a comeback. His absence from Austin and possibly Qatar means Aprilia will need to push forward without their star rider, but all eyes will be on when the reigning champion is ready to fight for victory once again.
