Malaysian Muay Thai sensation Johan Ghazali, just 18 years old, is set to face Colombian champion Johan “The Panda Kick” Estupinan in what promises to be a thrilling bout at the ONE 170 event.
The match will take place on January 24 at the iconic Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
Estupinan, renowned for his lightning-fast and precise attacks, brings an intimidating undefeated record of 26 fights to the ring, including four victories under the ONE Championship banner. His nickname, “The Panda Kick,” reflects his signature style of swift and relentless strikes that have overwhelmed many of his opponents.
However, Johan, affectionately called “Jojo” by fans, is unfazed by Estupinan’s formidable reputation. Determined to make a mark in the ONE Championship flyweight division, Johan has prepared a meticulous strategy to counter his opponent’s strengths.
Acknowledging the challenge ahead, Johan revealed his confidence in his game plan during an interview with Astro Arena’s Kamal Nizam.
“It’s true that Estupinan is fast and dangerous, but we’ve crafted our strategy carefully,” Johan stated. “Speed alone won’t win a fight—we’ve prepared to counter his style effectively. God willing, the victory will be ours.”
The stakes are particularly personal for Johan. This match not only represents an opportunity to climb the ranks in the ONE Championship flyweight division but also serves as a chance for redemption. Johan’s older brother, Elias Ghazali, suffered a defeat at the hands of Estupinan during the 2021 IFMA World Championship.
“This fight is not just for me—it’s for my family and for Elias,” Johan added. “I’m ready to prove that we can overcome any challenge.”
With both fighters boasting impressive credentials, the bout has garnered significant attention in the Muay Thai community. Johan’s rapid rise in the sport and his unwavering determination have made him a beacon of hope for Malaysian martial arts, while Estupinan’s dominance ensures the matchup will be a true test of skill and strategy.
For Johan, this fight is more than just another match; it’s an opportunity to showcase Malaysian talent on a global stage, avenge his brother’s loss, and further solidify his reputation as one of the brightest young stars in the sport.
