Ismaheel Akinade, striker Nigerian of Terengganu FC expressed his confidence in scoring against Selangor FC in the first semi-final of the Piala FA Malaysia in this Friday.
The Nigerian-born player emphasized that the status of The Red Giants squad does not intimidate him. Instead, he is eager to face the team managed by Mohd Nidzam Jamil.
Akinade, who previously played for Kelantan FC and Kelantan United FC last season, has faith in the tactics of his head coach, Tomislav Steinbruckner, even though he has just started working with him this season.
“On paper, the opposing squad (Selangor FC) is one of the strongest teams and challengers in the Malaysian League (M League), but as a player, I am always ready in every match to deliver my best performance.” Akinade said.
“If I have the chance to score, I definitely won’t let it slip away. An early goal is crucial because it can motivate the team.”
“But if I fail to score, that’s not the main issue. What’s important is that the team manages to win and scores as many goals as possible.”
“I also expect solid support from our loyal fans to boost our enthusiasm, especially since we will be playing at home first,”
Earlier, in the first quarter-final against Sabah FC, Akinade, who had been previously criticized by his own fans for inconsistent performances, scored two goals to secure a 4-0 victory for his team. He then helped the team achieve a 3-0 win in the second quarter-final.
