Professional men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin Rumsani will join the national team for joint training sessions as part of their preparation for the Malaysia Open, which gets underway on January 6, 2026.
National men’s doubles head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi confirmed that the independent pair will train with the national squad twice a week, a move aimed at raising overall training standards while benefiting both the professional shuttlers and the BAM men’s doubles unit.
“Coach Rexy (Mainaky) messaged me to inform that the professional players wanted to train together—twice a week. I said it was fine, especially with the Malaysia Open coming up,” Herry said after a national team training session at the Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) today.
“If professional players don’t always have enough sparring, they can join us here. It’s mutually beneficial,” he added.
Herry believes the joint sessions will also help foster healthy competition, given the similar playing level between the professional pair and the national doubles players.
“In my view, training together makes sense because they are on the same level. That will only make things better,” he said.
However, Herry stressed that the arrangement is currently short-term, focused mainly on immediate tournament preparation.
“For now, it’s just for the Malaysia Open. As for longer-term plans like the Thomas Cup, there haven’t been any discussions yet,” he explained.
