The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has officially suspended the membership of the Kelantan Football Association (KAFA) as an Affiliate Member, effective Monday, December 23, 2024.
This significant decision, made by the FAM Executive Committee, follows serious procedural concerns regarding KAFA’s recent congress and executive committee elections.
The suspension was enacted under Article 17 of the FAM Statute, granting the FAM Executive Committee authority to suspend membership if necessary. The decision stems from findings by the FAM Internal Disputes Committee, an ad hoc body established under the directive of the Malaysian Sports Commissioner.
The FAM Internal Disputes Committee investigated complaints regarding the 65th KAFA Annual Congress and the election of its Executive Committee for the 2024-2028 term.
Key issues identified include:
- Exclusion of Affiliate Members: Certain affiliate members were reportedly not invited or allowed to attend the congress.
- Procedural Irregularities: The congress and election process were conducted in a disorganized manner, failing to adhere to proper protocols.
These violations prompted the committee to declare the 65th KAFA Congress and its Executive Committee elections invalid during a meeting held on December 19, 2024. The Sports Commissioner of Malaysia has been formally informed of this decision.
In light of these findings, FAM has directed KAFA to re-conduct the congress and executive committee elections as soon as possible. Until these corrective measures are implemented, KAFA’s membership in FAM remains suspended.
FAM’s decision underscores its commitment to upholding governance standards and ensuring fair and transparent processes within its affiliated bodies.
