Selangor FC keep advantage in the first match after beating Penang FC scoring 1-0 in the MFL Challenge Cup 2024/25 Semi-Final 1st leg at Stadium Bandaraya, Pulau Pinang.
The decisive moment came in the 35th minute when a cross from Quentin Cheng down the right wing caused confusion in Penang’s defense. Quentin’s delivery, intended for teammate Ronnie Fernandez, deflected off Penang defender Vitor and into his own net, handing Selangor the crucial away goal.
Despite their lead, Selangor struggled to extend their advantage. Head coach Katsuhito Kinoshi introduced star striker Faisal Halim in the 53rd minute, replacing Mukhairi Ajmal, in a bid to bolster the attack. However, Penang’s defense held firm, denying Selangor any further scoring opportunities.
The match showcased a resilient performance from both sides, with Selangor capitalizing on a defensive error to secure the win. They now hold a slight edge heading into the second leg at home on February 2, where they will look to seal their place in the final.
