Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, have officially conquered Asia after delivering a commanding straight-games victory to clinch the 2025 Badminton Asia Championships title in Ningbo, China.
The world No. 6 duo silenced the home crowd with an emphatic 21-19, 21-17 win over Chinese pair Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi, marking their third win in four encounters against the rising Chinese stars.
The triumph was not just about the title — it was redemption. Having finished runners-up in the 2022 edition in the Philippines and settling for bronze last year, Aaron and Wooi Yik finally stood tall atop the Asian stage. The victory puts an exclamation mark on their relentless journey back to form.
Their performance was nothing short of mesmerizing, showcasing world-class synergy, tactical intelligence, and iron-clad defense, all of which proved too much for the Chinese duo to handle.
Despite facing a loud and partisan crowd in Ningbo, the Malaysian pair maintained composure and focus, blocking out the noise and playing their game with precision and poise.
The first game saw both pairs trading points evenly, tied at 15-15, before Aaron and Wooi Yik pulled ahead to close out the game 21-19 with calm execution under pressure.
The second set initially saw the Malaysians trailing 8-12, but they clawed their way back with a string of relentless attacks and smart plays, eventually storming to a 21-17 finish to seal the championship.
For their stunning victory, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik will take home USD $37,000 (RM163,715.99) in prize money — a deserved reward for their stellar performance and perseverance over the years.
