Reigning FIM Asia Road Racing Championship ASB1000 champion Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah has taken a calm and professional stance regarding past tensions with fellow Malaysian rider Zaqhwan Zaidi, choosing instead to focus fully on the upcoming 2026 season.
Speaking at the Sepang International Circuit ahead of the championship’s opening round, the JDT Racing Team rider brushed aside speculation surrounding the relationship between the two competitors.
“Between me and him? I think it’s normal… he does his thing, and I do mine,” Hafizh said casually when asked about the situation.
The remarks come after the pair were involved in a collision during last year’s race weekend at Sepang, an incident that sparked significant discussion among fans and the motorsport community.
However, Hafizh, Malaysia’s former MotoGP rider, appeared determined not to revisit the controversy.
“For me, that matter is already in the past. My focus now is only on racing and the team,” he added.
Heading into the new season as the defending ASB1000 champion, Hafizh has set his sights on an even bigger objective — defending the title while maintaining consistent performances throughout the campaign.
The Malaysian star highlighted the importance of technical improvements and race consistency as crucial factors in staying competitive in Asia’s premier motorcycle racing championship.
“We’ve prepared thoroughly, especially in terms of the bike and strategy. My target is clear — start the season strongly and stay among the front runners.”
With the 2026 championship kicking off this weekend at Sepang, Hafizh is optimistic about delivering strong results from the very first round.
Armed with renewed confidence and a composed mindset, the experienced rider believes his disciplined approach will help him remain a leading contender in the championship battle.
