Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan, Malaysia’s top women’s doubles badminton pair, have reached the final of the CLASH ROYALE Arctic Open 2024 at Vantaan Energia Areena, Finland.
Competing as the third seed in this Super 500 tournament, Pearly and Thinaah faced a grueling semifinal against Japan’s second-seeded duo, Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi. The Malaysian pair triumphed after an intense 1-hour-42-minute battle, securing a 21-19, 19-21, 26-24 victory.
The win sets up a potential rematch from last month’s Hong Kong Open final, where Pearly and Thinaah captured their first-ever title by defeating China’s top seeds, Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning. If Liu and Tan overcome their compatriots Li Yi Jing and Luo Xu Min in the other semifinal, they will face the Malaysians again in what promises to be an exciting showdown.
Pearly and Thinaah’s victory continues their stellar form, which saw them dominate Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning 21-14, 21-14 in the Hong Kong Open final. The Malaysian pair will be looking to replicate that success in Finland.
In addition to Pearly and Thinaah, Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani have also advanced to the final of the men’s doubles. The world number eight pair delivered a stunning upset, defeating China’s top-seeded Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang 19-21, 21-17, 21-18 in a thrilling semifinal.
