Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, displayed remarkable resilience to book their spot in the quarter-finals of the prestigious All England 2025 despite an injury scare to Pearly.
The fifth-seeded duo defeated Indonesia’s Apriyani Rahayu-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti 21-16, 21-14 in a commanding 43-minute second-round encounter at Utilita Arena Birmingham.
Pearly-Thinaah started aggressively, dominating the first game before surging to a 15-7 lead in the second. However, drama unfolded when Pearly twisted her left ankle while attempting a delicate drop shot, bringing the match to a sudden halt.
With medical assistance and pain-relief spray, the 24-year-old courageously continued, pushing through the discomfort to secure a hard-fought victory.
Their next challenge will be against third seeds Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu Shida after the Japanese pair defeated Bulgaria’s Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva 21-14, 21-19.
Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Dominate Mixed Doubles Clash
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair, Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jemie, delivered a flawless performance, dismantling Scotland’s Alexander Dunn and Julie MacPherson 21-9, 21-10 in just 25 minutes.
The top-seeded Malaysians will face fifth seeds Jiang Zhen Bang and Huang Dong Ping of China in the quarter-finals, after the Chinese pair eased past Taiwan’s Lu Ming Che and Hung En-Tzu 21-13, 21-17.
Shevon acknowledged the upcoming challenge, particularly against Dong Ping, saying:
“She’s an all-rounder, strong in both the front and back court. It’s tough to score easy points against her, so we need to be patient and make every shot count.”
With Pearly-Thinaah and Goh-Shevon marching forward, Malaysia’s quest for glory at the All England 2025 remains on track. Fans will be hoping for more heroic performances as the competition intensifies in Birmingham.
