Malaysia U23 national team ended in 4th place this time after losing to the Thailand U23 national team in a period of Penalty shoot-out with a score of 3-4 after ending at 90 minutes 0-0 in the AFF U23 Championship 2023 at Rayong Provincial Stadium.
After being tied without a goal in 90 minutes, two national players, Syahir Bashah and Muhammad Abu Khalil became the most disappointed individuals after failing to complete the kick.
Earlier, although the action was seen to be relatively balanced during the first half hour, the quality of the game was slightly in favor of the hosts and in the 32nd minute, the excellence of the national goalkeeper, Muhammad Azim Al Amin managed to deny Phanthamit Praphanth’s close range attempt.
Next, the country’s game improved by getting some of the best chances especially through Fergus Tierney but his shot in the 44th minute went straight to the opposing goalkeeper, Thirawooth Sraunson.
Continuing the second half, Azin Al Almin continued to excel and in the 57th minute, denied Chukid Wanpraphao’s attempt.
Four minutes after that, the national striker, Alif Ikmalrizal Anuar was also disappointed when his shot was successfully blocked by Sraunson, forcing the winner to be decided on a penalty kick.
Tierney, Aliff Izwan and Ruventhiran calmly completed the kick, but Malaysia’s desire to finish in third place was not achieved when Syahir and Muhammad Abu’s kick was blocked by Thirawuth Sraunson.
