Laos U19 national team take the top of group after winning Malaysia U19 national team with a score of 1-0 in the AFF U19 Championship 2022 Group stage Group B at Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium, Bekasi.
Laos, which still maintained a clean sheet in Group B, had the best chance to be in front, however Khonesavanh Keonuchan’s volley from outside the penalty area was deflected by goalkeeper Syahmi Adib Haikal Mohd Shukri in the 12th minute.
Shocked by the attack, Hassan Sazali Waras ‘men performed better to create an opportunity to tear Laos’ goal. However, goalkeeper Chanthavsay Thiep Anong was adamant in denying a series of opportunities for the national squad.
The goalkeeper excelled in thwarting the best chance through a swipe attempt from Abdul Rahman Daud Azizol and also an acrobatic blast by Muhammad Najmuddin Akmal Kamal Akmal.
Phoutthavong Sangvilay emerged the hero for Hans Micheal Weiss’s side when the substitute defender completed a penalty in the 68th minute to open the scoring.
The penalty kick was awarded by the referee from Indonesia, Aprisman Aranda following the rudeness committed by the captain, Muhammad Faiz Amer Runnizar against Athit Louanglath in the penalty area.
The efforts of the national players to return to level the position by incarnating several dangerous attempts did not bear fruit to place Laos as the group champions and will face Thailand in another semi-final.
