UM’07 urges Harimau Malaya supporters to stay away from upcoming matches against Laos and the Philippines amid growing frustration over Malaysian football
A Malaysian football supporters group, UM’07, has called for fans to boycott upcoming national team matches and leave the stadium empty as a form of protest, declaring that Malaysian football must be “returned to the people.”
In a strongly worded social media statement, the group urged supporters of Harimau Malaya to stand united following the controversies that have surrounded Malaysian football.
“After everything that has happened, is happening and will happen, it is time for all of us, the supporters of Harimau Malaya, to unite.”
The group then issued a direct call: “LET US EMPTY THE STADIUM.”
UM’07 called for a boycott until what it described as its “fundamental demands” are met and Malaysian football is restored to the people.
The group argued that football should not become the playground of the privileged, entertainment for the elite or a tool for political manipulation.
“We all deserve football that is fair, honest and has integrity. RETURN FOOTBALL TO THE PEOPLE.”
The boycott campaign highlighted two upcoming Malaysia home matches at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras — against Laos on 28 July 2026 and the Philippines on 8 August 2026.
The campaign comes at a sensitive period for Malaysian football, with supporters increasingly vocal about governance, transparency and integrity within the national game.
Whether the boycott call will gain widespread support remains to be seen, but the message from UM’07 is clear: for this group of supporters, staying away from the stadium is intended to become a statement in itself. “Fair. Honest. Integrity.” and “Return Football to the People.”
