Malaysian men’s singles badminton ace Lee Zii Jia has officially confirmed his return to competitive action in March 2025 after recovering from a ligament injury sustained during the 2024 World Tour Finals (WTF) in Hangzhou, China.
The 2024 Olympic bronze medalist was forced to withdraw from three early 2025 tournaments to prioritize his recovery. Now, the former 2021 All England Open champion has shared positive news about his rehabilitation progress and hinted at possible participation in either the 2025 All England Open or the 2025 Orleans Masters as his comeback event.
“So far, I can say I’m still going through the recovery process. Hopefully, I might be back in March for the Orleans Masters or All England (Open),” Zii Jia told Astro Arena reporter Zaki Zainal.
“One of them might be my first tournament of the year. I have to be patient, that’s what I always tell myself. I can’t wait to get back into the game,” he added.
Upcoming Tournaments as Comeback Options
- 2025 Orleans Masters: Scheduled for March 4-9
- 2025 All England Open: Slated for March 11-16
These prestigious events may also mark the debut of Zii Jia’s newly appointed coach, Yeoh Kay Bin, signaling a fresh start for the Malaysian shuttler.
Zii Jia’s decision to take the necessary time off underscores his disciplined approach to safeguarding his long-term career. His eagerly awaited return has sparked excitement among badminton fans who are hopeful for another dominant year from the Malaysian star.
