Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has officially confirmed Malaysia national team will face India in an International ‘A’ Match FIFA Day on Tuesday, 19 November 2024 at India.
The announcement comes as part of Malaysia’s international engagements during the FIFA International Calendar from 11 to 19 November.
Currently, India is ranked 126th in the latest FIFA World Rankings, released on 19 September 2024, while Malaysia sits six places behind at 132nd. The upcoming clash will provide a competitive test for both teams as they prepare for future international tournaments.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is yet to confirm the venue and kick-off time for the fixture, though details will be finalized in the coming weeks. In addition to the match against India, FAM is in discussions to schedule another Tier 1 international match during the same period to maximize the team’s opportunities to gain valuable international experience.
Malaysia and India last faced off on 13 October 2023 in the Pestabola Merdeka 2023 tournament at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil, where the Harimau Malaya squad, then led by Kim Pan Gon, secured an impressive 4-2 victory. The forthcoming match will mark a highly anticipated rematch, with both teams looking to assert their dominance.
Historically, Malaysia visited India for a pair of friendlies in 2011, where they played out a 1-1 draw in Guwahati before losing 3-2 in Kolkata. With both teams aiming to climb the FIFA rankings, the 2024 match will serve as a crucial encounter for Harimau Malaya as they continue to develop under Pau Marti’s leadership.
