Football Federation of Cambodia(FFC) Announced via the official fan page that Yudai Ogawa, a 27-years-old Japanese midfielder of Phnom Penh Crown FC, has completed his naturalisation as a Cambodian. and will be named on the Cambodia national team in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers, first round, in October.
Ogawa played football in Japan with FC Gifu and Widzew Lodz in the Polish league before moving to the Cambodian league in 2018 with the National Defense Military (Tiffy Army FC at present) before moving to Angkor Tiger and Phnom Penh Crown FC before naturalisation to Cambodian citizenship. This makes him the first naturalised footballer in the history of Cambodian football.
Cambodia national team will play in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers, first round, Asia zone, first round, meeting the Pakistan national team, as format home-away, on 12 and 17 October 2023, with the winner advancing to the round 2 and entered Group G along with Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Tajikistan.
