Xisco Muñoz, Johor Darul Ta’zim head coach believes his side and Lion City Sailors head into their Shopee Cup 2025/26 opener on equal footing, with both clubs boasting deep squads and quality across the pitch.
Making their debut in the Shopee Cup this season, JDT earned qualification through their triumph in last year’s Malaysia Super League, while the Sailors join as Singapore’s representatives. The highly anticipated clash is set to take place tomorrow at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.
Muñoz, speaking at the pre-match press conference, emphasized that both teams are well-equipped despite facing hectic schedules this season.
“Both clubs have strong local and foreign players ready to play tomorrow. It’s similar to other teams that have an abundance of foreign players. We have 34 players available to start the season,” he said.
The Spanish tactician expressed his satisfaction with the overall condition of his squad ahead of the showdown.
“I’m very happy that all our players are fit and ready. Since both teams can maximize the foreign player quota, fans can expect both JDT and Lion City Sailors to field their strongest possible starting eleven,” Muñoz added.
The match promises to be an exciting curtain-raiser for the Shopee Cup, with JDT welcoming Lion City Sailors to their home ground in Iskandar Puteri.
