Tsutomu Ogura, head coach of Singapore national team is not in action for the match against Thailand in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 2 matchday 6 at Rajamangala National Stadium, Bangkok tomorrow after testing positive for COVID-19 today.
According to a report from the Football Association of Singapore(FAS), As of 4 pm (Bangkok time) this afternoon, Ogura, along with one other member of the backroom staff, have tested positive for COVID-19 and have since isolated themselves from the rest of the squad. The National Team doctor is currently monitoring the rest of the backroom staff as well as the players as a precaution.
The Football Association of Singapore extends well wishes to Coach Ogura and his fellow backroom staff members for a speedy recovery. It expresses confidence in Coach Gavin Lee as he guides the Lions in their quest for victory against Thailand.
However, Gavin Lee, assistant coach will be action as head coach through today’s training session, and he will also be assuming all matchday duties.
Gavin Lee, also the head coach for Singapore Premier League’s BG Tampines Rovers, has been an integral part of the national team’s coaching staff, assisting Coach Ogura in previous matches against China and the Korea Republic together with fellow Assistant Coach Kosei Nakamura.
