Malaysia have officially sealed the men’s doubles crown at the Syed Modi International Badminton Championships after two national pairs — Kang Khai Xing–Aaron Tai and Chia Weijie–Lwi Sheng Hao — set up an all-Malaysian showdown in the final in Lucknow, India.
In today’s Super 300 semifinals, Khai Xing–Aaron delivered a confident performance to defeat Russia’s Rodion Alimov–Maksim Ogloblin 21–15, 22–20.
The young Malaysian pair stayed composed under pressure, especially in the tight second game, to book their place in the final.
Chia Weijie–Lwi Sheng Hao made it a dream day for the national camp after overcoming fellow Malaysians Muhammad Faiq Haziq Masawi–Lok Hong Quan in a gripping three-game battle.
After cruising 21–5 in the opening game, Weijie–Sheng Hao were forced to regroup when they dropped the second 16–21.
They bounced back strongly to seal the decider 21–17 — confirming an all-Malaysian final and guaranteeing the title for the Jalur Gemilang.
Malaysia’s hopes in the women’s doubles ended in the semifinals. Ong Xin Yee–Carmen Ting were unable to break the momentum of India’s Treesa Jolly–Gayatri Gopichand Pullela, falling 11–21, 15–21.
