Syaqiera Mashayikh, Malaysia’s female archer, began her Olympics 2024 campaign positively, finishing 14th out of 64 participants in the individual ranking competition. This marks an impressive achievement, as she set a new personal record with 663 points at the Invalides.
Two South Korean archers, Lim Sihyeon and Nam Suhyeon, took the top two positions with scores of 694 and 688 points, respectively. Sihyeon set a new world record, surpassing Kang Chaeyoung’s 2019 record of 692 points.
Other Malaysian archers also competed, with Ariana Nur Dania Mohamad Zairi finishing in 50th place with 633 points, and Nurul Azreena Mohamad Fazil ranking 60th with 622 points.
The individual ranking round determines the standings for the knockout round, which is scheduled to start this Tuesday. The top-ranked archer will face the lowest-ranked archer in the knockout round leading to the final.
In the team event, the Malaysian trio finished 10th out of 12 countries with a combined score of 1918 points. They are set to face Indonesia in the 1/8 qualifying match this Sunday.
