Selangor Royal Office, has issued official statement by His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, Sultan of Selangor to support decision of Selangor FC after decided to not come to Johor for attend the match of Piala Sumbangsih 2024/25 on 10 May 2024.
In addition, Selangor FC confirmed to ready to face any action, following the decision not to attend this match.
“His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has given his approval and fully supported the Selangor FC team’s decision to NOT attend the 2024 Sumbangsih Cup match scheduled to take place on 10 May 2024 against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.” said by statement of Selangor Royal Office.
“However, His Majesty expressed disappointment that the Malaysian Football League (MFL) rejected Selangor FC’s request to postpone the match.”
“As the Patron of Selangor FC, His Majesty is of the view that following the occurrence of several life-threatening incidents involving players and officials recently, it is fitting that the Selangor FC team does not participate in the match which is also the first action of the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25.”
“His Majesty said, the priority at the moment is the lives and safety of the players, and not to win the trophy.”
“His Majesty said, not only the security issue, the morale of the team which is still disturbed and affected by the acid spill incident involving the winger, Faisal Halim, should also be taken into account. Therefore, His Majesty also supports solidarity to combat sports violence in any form #standwithfaisalhalim #stoptheviolence”
“His Majesty wants all parties to understand that the level of seriousness of incidents involving the lives of players like this is not the same as previous cases, not to mention that it happened very close to the date of the match.”
“His Majesty also emphasized that Selangor FC is ready to face any action, following the decision not to attend this match.”
