Thai MotoGP rider Somkiat Chantra of LCR Honda will be forced to miss the next two rounds of the 2025 MotoGP season—the German Grand Prix and the Czech Grand Prix—after suffering a training injury during a motocross session.
In an official statement released by the LCR Honda Team, it was confirmed that the 25-year-old rider was involved in a motocross accident on July 1 while undergoing off-track training. Medical evaluations later revealed a ligament injury in his right knee, which will require surgical intervention.
“Somkiat sustained a right knee ligament injury during a motocross training session on July 1. He is scheduled to undergo surgery next Tuesday at Universitari Dexeus Hospital in Barcelona, Spain,” the team announced.

As a result, the Thai rider will not be participating in the upcoming GermanGP and CzechGP rounds, as the focus shifts to his recovery and rehabilitation.
The injury comes at an unfortunate time for Somkiat, who just scored his first-ever Premier Class points at last weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix (DutchGP)—a major milestone in his MotoGP career and a moment of national pride for Thai motorsport fans.
Somkiat’s absence is a blow not only to LCR Honda’s campaign but also to Southeast Asia’s growing presence on the MotoGP grid. However, the team remains optimistic about his recovery and eventual return to action.
The 2025 MotoGP season has been one of fierce competition, and Somkiat’s recent performance indicated promising progress. The hope now is for a swift and full recovery that will allow him to rejoin the grid stronger and more determined than ever.
