Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has announced that it has parted ways with Takayuki Nishigaya, head coach of the Singapore national team after his performance did not meet his goals.
Nishigaya was appointed over the position of head coach of the Singapore national team in 2022, but his performance was not very elegant. Starting the qualifying round for the AFC Asian Cup 2023, including being eliminated in the group stage of the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022, even though they defeated the Guam national team. And made it to the second round in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifier round 2, but it wasn’t enough to keep him in the next position.
“The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has decided to part ways with Coach Nishigaya. The timing to effect this change was also reached after careful consideration.” FAS said in official statement.
“The recent performances and results of the National Team have been below expectation, and the FAS believes that an early transition to a fresh successor would re-energise the team and allow a longer runway for the National Team to prepare for important matches in the next few months and the year-end AFF tournament.”
“The FAS would like to place on record its gratitude and thank Nishigaya for his work in Singapore and wish him every success in his future endeavours.”
However, FAS will be announcing a new head coach in due course.
