Terengganu FC, a club from Malaysia started with disappointing performance after losing to Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC, a club from Cambodia scoring 2-3 in the ACC Shopee Cup 2024/25 Group Stage, Group A at Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, Gong Badak.
The match started on a rough note for Terengganu as the visitors took the lead with a goal from Brazilian striker Gabriel Costa in the 12th minute. Just three minutes later, Costa’s compatriot, Pablo Carvalho, capitalized on a mistake by Terengganu goalkeeper Suhaimi Husin, making it 2-0.
Despite being two goals behind, Terengganu pushed forward to close the gap but struggled against Svay Rieng’s solid defense. In the 30th minute, Gabriel Costa nearly made it 3-0 for the visitors, but his powerful shot struck the crossbar.
Terengganu’s Akhyar Rashid missed a crucial opportunity in the 36th minute, sending his shot wide of the goal.
In the second half, Terengganu’s persistence paid off when Manuel Ott scored in the 55th minute after a cross from Muhammad Ubaidullah Shamsul Fazili. With momentum building, Terengganu brought on fresh strikers Engku Muhammad Nur Syakir and Nnabuike Chukwu, but they couldn’t find the equalizer.
Svay Rieng extended their lead to 3-1 in the 86th minute, thanks to a long-range strike from Min Ratanak. Terengganu managed to pull one back in the 90th minute when Safawi Rasid converted a penalty after Chukwu was fouled, bringing the score to 3-2.
In a dramatic moment just before the final whistle, Terengganu was awarded another penalty, but after a VAR review, the decision was overturned, leaving the home fans disappointed.
The match ended with Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC securing a 3-2 victory over Terengganu FC.
