Kuala Lumpur City, a club from Malaysia secures second victory in this round after beating Borneo FC, a club from. Indonesia scoring 1-0 in the Shopee Cup 2024/25 Group Stage, Group B at KLFA Stadium, Cheras.
The early stages of the match saw both teams struggling to find their rhythm, with no significant attempts in the first 20 minutes. Borneo FC began to settle first, dominating ball possession, but KL City FC’s defense effectively stifled their advances, preventing any breakthrough for the visiting team.
KL City FC registered the first accurate attempt in the 21st minute, courtesy of a long-range shot from Giancarlo Gallifuoco. Stefano Lilipaly’s attempt in the 23rd minute for Borneo FC was blocked by KL City’s solid defensive line.
The second half opened with both sides launching counterattacks. Borneo FC’s closest chance came in the 56th minute when Leonardo Andriel dos Santos’ close-range effort was saved by KL City’s goalkeeper, Azri Ab Ghani. Meanwhile, Borneo FC’s goalkeeper, Nadeo Arga Winata, made a crucial save in the 69th minute from Sean Giannelli’s attempt.
However, in the 76th minute, KL City broke the deadlock as Brendan Gan found the back of the net, finishing off a well-placed pass from Zhafri Yahya. Despite Borneo FC pushing hard for an equalizer, KL City’s defense, led by goalkeeper Azri, held firm to secure the 1-0 victory.
