Buriram United booked their place in the Shopee Cup 2024/25 Final after holding compatriots BG Pathum United to a 0-0 draw in the second leg of the semi-final at Pathum Thani Stadium.
The result sees Buriram progress with a 3-1 aggregate victory, having won the first leg convincingly.
The highly anticipated clash kicked off under unique circumstances, as the referee informed both teams that VAR (Video Assistant Referee) would be inactive for the match, heightening the stakes and placing full trust in the on-field decisions.
The first half saw a cautious approach from both sides. Neither team managed to assert dominance in the attacking third, with only a handful of half-chances created. The deadlock remained unbroken heading into the break.
Buriram emerged with more urgency in the second half. Supachai Chaided had an early opportunity to put the visitors ahead, but his effort was brilliantly denied by BGPU goalkeeper Saranon Anuin.
BG Pathum United responded in the 57th minute with their best chance of the match through Chananan Pombubpha, whose powerful strike was superbly saved by Buriram’s keeper, Chatchai Bootprom.
Despite late pressure from the home side, BG Pathum United failed to break through the disciplined Buriram defence. The match ended goalless, confirming Buriram’s place in the final.
With this result, Buriram United advances to the Shopee Cup Final, where they will face Cong An Hanoi FC from Vietnam. The two-legged final is set to be played on May 14 and May 21.
