Selangor FC is preparing to take their case against the Malaysian Football League (MFL) to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). This decision follows the recent punishment handed down by the MFL, which Selangor FC believes to be overly harsh.
Mohd Najwan Halimi, Chairman of the Sports Standing Committee, confirmed that Selangor FC has engaged legal representation to continue their appeal at a higher judicial level.
“The punishment from the MFL was harsher than before, but under the directive of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, there has been some consideration. Selangor FC will continue to appeal and take it to a higher level.” He stated,
Najwan Halimi made these remarks while discussing an emergency motion at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) condemning extreme acts of violence against sports athletes. The motion was specifically in response to an incident involving Selangor FC player Faisal Halim, who was attacked with acid last May.
Halimi emphasized that Selangor strongly rejects any culture of violence.
“The most important thing is that we all uphold the commandment of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah. His majesty’s wisdom and concern for the issue we are discussing today is paramount. We must maintain peace in sports, standing firmly behind Tuanku Sultan,” he said.
The Selangor State Assembly approved an emergency motion condemning extreme acts of violence against sports athletes. The motion, brought forward by Seri Serdang State Assemblyman Abbas Azmi, was discussed and unanimously agreed upon by all 56 assemblymen present.
As Selangor FC prepares to take its case to CAS, it aims to overturn the MFL’s punishment and ensure justice is served. This move underscores the club’s commitment to fair play and its stance against violence in sports.
