Malaysia’s dream of marching into the Badminton women’s team final in the SEA Games 2025 came to a heartbreaking and earned bronze medal after a narrow 2–3 defeat to defending champions Indonesia in a high-intensity semifinal showdown at Gymnesium 4 of Thammasat University Rangsit Campus, Pathum Thani.
In a tie that went down to the very last match, the Malaysian squad showed tremendous fight and tactical discipline, but Indonesia’s depth and experience ultimately made the difference.
Match 1: Women’s Singles (1)
K. Letshanaa (MAS) lost to Putri Kusuma Wardani (INA) 0-2 (9–21, 10–21)
Indonesia struck first blood as Putri Kusuma Wardani delivered a commanding performance, outmaneuvering Letshanaa with relentless pace and superior net control. Malaysia trailed 0–1 early.
Match 2: Women’s Doubles (1)
Pearly Tan / M. Thinaah (MAS) win Rachel Allessya Rose / Febi Setianingrum (INA) 2-1 (21–14, 17–21, 21–15)
Malaysia bounced back superbly. Pearly–Thinaah displayed their trademark chemistry, turning up the aggression in the decider to level the tie at 1–1. Their fighting spirit kept Malaysian hopes alive.
Match 3: Women’s Singles (2)
Wong Ling Ching (MAS) lost to Gregoria Mariska Tunjung (INA) 1-2 (22–20, 15–21, 16–21)
Wong Ling Ching came agonizingly close to a major upset, taking the opening game and pushing Gregoria into deep waters. But the seasoned Indonesian steadied herself to reclaim the lead for Indonesia at 1–2.
Match 4: Women’s Doubles (2)
Go Pei Kee / Toh Ee Wei (MAS) win Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma / Meilysa Trias Puspitasari (INA) 2-1 (9–21, 21–10, 21–9)
A spectacular revival! After a shaky first game, Pei Kee–Ee Wei turned the tables with sharp interceptions and precise drives, overwhelming the Indonesians to equalize at 2–2.
Match 5: Women’s Singles (3)
Siti Zulaikha Azmi (MAS) lost to Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari (INA) 0-2 (18–21, 16-21)
The pressure-packed final match saw Siti Zulaikha fighting with grit, grabbing the second game to force a decider. However, Mutiara Ayu’s mental composure and late surge secured Indonesia’s winning point, sealing the tie 3–2.
